intrepid visions

2002 Denis began his sixth year of work on the circle painting.
In 2003 the artist reyturned to the UK (Dorset) working as a consultant artist/designer for a private company.
Here he painted ten works on mahogany veneer door panels ('Baptists' work).
The Baptists series involved water reflections, a subject which the artist would return to in 2006. However fate played its hand once again in redirecting his art. Whilst in Dorset the artist was diagnosed with a tumor. He was given slim chance of survival after his doctors discovered secondary cancers. After surgery and several weeks of immobility he returned to his Swedish studio.
Once there he created twenty one oil paintings on masonite, see below. These works display how the artist applied his method of split level conscious painting with the creation of vivid existential and a spiritual intelligent art which correlate with the subject matter.

The paintings were approached in a Jackson Pollock style, that is they were all worked on with the canvas lying horizontally. He selected to explore each title subject three times The artist used a 'constant contact' technique involving 'dragging' a large and colour laden brush across the surface in rythmic movements (ref: BBC video). This was an approach that may have helped him to keep a close emotional relationship with the subject matter chosen. The paintings  illustrate that his 'optimistic outlook' was superceded with periods of deep depressions (ref: 'artists diary). Denis left Sweden in 2005 and returned once again to the UK.
He worked on commissions (ie: 'Abbey Road' mural for the Greenhouse music rehersal studio, Manchester UK), he produced a video for a BBC web site and used his
art knowledge and education in interior design to generate funds. He sketched a number of  ideas for a series paintings based on 'reflections' using the local historic Ashton to Manchester canal which was close to his Manchester studio. The 'Baptists' paintings from 2003 may have served as inspiration for the work of the canal sketchs. In 2006 he became re-united with his son and was introduced to his grand daughter before finally returning to join his wife at his Swedish studio in 2007.
